!!NEW!! Here for your consideration is a rare and very famous Father/Son grouping... FATHER:Captain John W. Thomason, Jr., Marine hero (Navy Cross & Silver Star recipient in World War One) and famous author of books such as “FIX BAYONETS”… plus “And A Few Marines.” This is a unique piece of WWI 4th Brigade Marine Corps history... Captain John W. Thomason, Jr's Shipping Trunk that is clearly identified to him. Also included is an original first edition copy of "Fix Bayonets". This trunk displays very well and is clearly marked with Thomason's name on the top and both sides. Unfortunately it was not stored properly and there is damage to the bottom as pictured.
SON: Lt. John W. Thomason III. Officer Service Green uniform, which includes the blouse, trousers and dark cordovan riding boots. The blouse has moth tracking and a few small nips and is missing one large button but still displays very nicely on a mannequin torso. Clearly named and dated December 8th, 1941. You can see the outline and remainder of blue stitching from where at one time there was a 1st Marine Division patch sewn on the left shoulder. Lt. Thomason served with the 1st Marine Division during the Guadalcanal campaign and later transferred to HQ 4th Marine Division where on Iwo Jima during the battle he would receive the Silver Star for his heroic leadership to evacuate the wounded off the beach during an intense shelling. The trousers are very tattered and moth eaten but will also be included. The riding boots are in fair condition with thread separation in a couple spot on the soles... but they still display nicely.
Thomason’s Jr's trunk and his son’s officer service green uniform came from the family estate in Huntsville, Texas about 30 years ago where since it’s initial purchase it was on display in a privately owned museum in East Texas. FEDEX Shipping to be calculated based on buyer's location… OR I can deliver for free at SOS in February 2025. ASKING $2,500.00

U.S. Army Air Force Pilot and one of ten airmen who perished when U.S. Army YB-29 Superfortress #41-36961 stalled and crashed on takeoff at Smoky Hill Army Airfield, Salina, Kansas. The crew was at the forefront of the testing and evaluation of the Superfortress as it was being rushed into service to be forwardly deployed to the Western Pacific to combat the Japanese Empire. The pilots were practicing takeoff and landing exercises and were attempting a three-engine takeoff with one motor shut down with the propeller windmilling. But the YB-29 rolled to the right at a 90° angle and plummeted to the ground and was utterly destroyed. Miraculously, the tail gunner survived, but with severe injuries.
